Are You & Your Office Keeping Up To Date With Current Infection Control Standards?

June 27, 2017

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/dental-1.4170706

Have you been following the recent news of the dental clinic in Burlington that wasn't following proper infection control guidelines, which led to the closure of the clinic, suspension of the dentist's license and a notice being sent out to 9000 of their past/current patients/clients recommending to be tested for infectious diseases? The clinic has since been reopened and the dentist’s license suspension has been lifted but what do you think this will do for their reputation? Not to mention the trust that will have been lost between them and their clients. Whether it be related to using dated infection control standards, cutting corners to try and save a dollar or not making sure all of your staff members are properly trained, it’s just not worth it. Take the time, keep up with current standards and make sure that everyone is on the same page.

Are you confident that you and your office would pass an inspection? RDH’s keep in mind that you are also responsible for making sure that the infection control standards are being met in your office. The CDHO has sent out an email reminding us all of this and letting us know that they are available if we need to ask any questions. Below are some resources that they and others have shared:

‘As a recommendation, Public Health Ontario also offers free Online Learning Modules related to infection control and prevention on their website to help ensure your practice is up to date. These modules are valuable activities to use towards your Quality Assurance requirements.’ -CDHO

The CDC has some resources listed on this page as well.

* Be sure to view the available check-list, it'll give you guidance as to if any improvements need to be made

If you are in need of help or guidance, don’t wait and just hope that no one notices or nothing serious happens. Be proactive and reach out. There are many resources out there and practice advice available. Feel free to contact me, as I would be happy to help, as well as to point you in the direction you need.
